Pre and Post Care for Laser Hair Removal
Before
  • It is preferable to shave the day before the treatment to avoid irritation, but if you forget, it is acceptable to shave the day of your treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 7 days before treatment. Recently tanned skin cannot be treated! If treated within a week (of active natural sunlight or tanning bed), you may develop Hypopigmentation (white spots) after treatment, which could take 2-3 months or more to disappear.
  • Stop any topical treatments (Retín-A, AHA, benzol peroxide, etc.) for the treatment area 3-5 days before your treatments.
  • Avoid electrolysis, hair removal with tweezers, threading, bleaching and or waxing for 2-4 weeks before treatment.
  • The use of tanning creams, tanning beds, or tanning should be discontinued before and during treatments.
  • You may not have treatments done until 7 days after the last dose of antibiotics or sun-sensitive medications.
After
  • Immediately after treatment there may be some erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) at the treatment site. This usually will last 2 hours or more. Erythema can last up to 10 days. The treatment area may feel like a sunburn for a few hours after treatment, but it will decrease.
  • Hydrocortisone can be used after treatment especially if you experience any itchiness.
  • Avoid scratching the treated areas.
  • No heat such as saunas, steam baths, hot tubs, very hot showers, or strenuous activities for a minimum of 48 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure to avoid hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation.
  • Please do not use any hair removal products or similar treatments (i.e. electrolysis, hair removal with tweezers, depilatory creams, and or waxing). They will disturb the hair follicle, shaving is allowed.
  • Treat the skin gently for at least 48 hours after your treatment.
